HEY, CREATIVE BESTIE!
I'm stoked that you’re here! AWS is all about celebrating creativity and craftsmanship (and ditching perfection, because ew).
IT ALL STARTED WHEN...
I started quilting in 2013 when I was a new mom with postpartum depression. I needed to do something and actually have it stay done (unlike the endless diapers and laundry). I stood outside Hancock Fabrics with my newborn to get a Black Friday sewing machine and some cheap fabric. I made so many quilts that first year, people actually asked me to stop!
Fun fact: I've never purchased a quilt pattern. Even my very first quilt was my own (very simple and wonky) design that I sketched on graph paper. Good thing I paid attention in high school geometry!
I didn't turn quilting into a career until 2023, when my kiddos were old enough to feed themselves, ha! I did commission work for a year to save up for a graphic design course, and I never looked back. Design is like magic: you can turn literally any idea into a finished product that people get to enjoy over and over.
FUN FACTS
Coffee order
Oat milk honey latte, extra shot, easy ice, easy milk.
Favorite travel destination
I'm a Capricorn: take me to the mountains!
My absolute favorite memory was taking my kids to Yellowstone, and a bear walked right up to my window! I'm definitely one of those people who will die trying to pet something I shouldn't.
Morning routine
- Drink coffee
- Make stuff
For the record, I wholeheartedly believe that influencers who tell you their morning routine is the secret to their success are liars and just trying to sell you stuff.
A bedtime routine, though? Peak womanhood behavior. I keep it simple: basic skincare, a good book, and cozy socks.
When I'm not sewing
I'm a wrestling mom and a book lover, so I'm probably reading in a hot, stinky gym.
We also unschool on a small farm in Oklahoma, so there's always plenty of chores and school chaos to tend to.
Fun fact: brush-hogging is my FAVORITE chore. It's so satisfying!
What I'm munching on
My absolute, always-a-favorite dishes: BLTs with basil mayo, Pad Thai, or sushi.
My family are all a bunch of foodies, though, so we turn every meal into a masterpiece. I wholeheartedly believe that even beans and rice become something special with a drizzle of good olive oil and some fresh squeezed lemon juice.
What I'm watching/reading/listening to
Watching:
- The Good Witch
- Grace and Frankie (on repeat)
- Stranger Things
Reading:
- The Empyrean Series + ACOTAR
- Everything ever written by Barbara Kingsolver or Margaret Atwood
- Modern retellings of fairy tales or myths (Circe and Small Favors are my favorites!)
Listening:
- Instrumental Pop when I'm working
- I'm definitely a Swiftie
- Evanescence for a throwback
- Hype running music for workouts
AND HERE WE ARE
Who knew that a small-town homeschool mom would end up with a thriving creative business?! I guess it should have been obvious, though: when I was a kid, I'd spend HOURS poring over the JCPenny catalogs (remember those?), talking about all the clothes and home decor I'd design someday.
Not only did that dream come true, but now I get to share it with you!
Thanks for being part of my online community. It means the world to me to have creatives from across the globe use my products to deepen their own creativity.
We're crafting magic, one stitch at a time.
